Pentagon Strikes Classified AI Deals with OpenAI and Google, Excludes Anthropic

The Pentagon has reached agreements with OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia, xAI, and the startup Reflection, allowing the agency to use their AI tools in classified settings.

Notably, Anthropic, which the Department of Defense previously used for classified information, has been left out and declared a supply-chain risk. Anthropic previously held a $200 million deal for classified materials but refused to loosen its "red lines" regarding mass domestic surveillance and fully autonomous weapons, leading to a dispute that resulted in the ban.
