Cloudflare Launches Programmable Wallets for AI Agents Using x402 Protocol

APPSO · wechat · 2026-08-05

Cloudflare has introduced Cloudflare Wallets, programmable wallets designed for AI agents to solve the lack of stable identity and native payment capabilities. Built on the x402 protocol, the solution embeds payment logic directly into HTTP requests, enabling AI to complete micro-transactions without navigating web pages or filling out forms.

To manage risk, the system features a human-controlled "Account Wallet" and a "Virtual Wallet" for AI. The Virtual Wallet acts as a strict spending limit, giving humans the confidence to delegate API testing and purchasing tasks to agents. Furthermore, a dedicated Wallet Handle serves as an "electronic ID" for AI, shifting internet security paradigms from blocking bots to verifying machine identity and creditworthiness.

The article notes that equipping AI with identity and payment capabilities will spawn a "Headless Marketplace." In this machine-driven ecosystem, buyers evaluate options purely on data accuracy, latency, and cost, heavily compressing brand premiums. Comparing this to WeChat Pay's recent "AI Exclusive Card," the author highlights two distinct paths toward autonomous AI commerce and transactional agents.
