Cloudflare's Practice: Using AI Agents to Drive Astro's Open-Source Issues to Zero

ritakozlov · x · 2026-08-05

Cloudflare shared how they used AI agents to build a "software factory" to solve the burnout and overwhelming issue volume faced by open-source maintainers.

The team deployed an automated triage pipeline in the Astro repository. Built on the open-source framework Flue, the system runs subagents inside GitHub Actions to automatically read bug reports, reproduce them in sandboxes, diagnose root causes, and ship preview releases for reporters to verify.

Through continuous iteration, the system successfully reduced Astro's open issues from over 200 to about 30, and is expected to hit zero soon—marking the first time in the project's 5-year history that it would achieve zero open issues.
