Cloudflare Uses AI to Enforce Engineering Standards, Blocking 16K Merges

irvinebroque · x · 2026-08-05

Cloudflare shared its internal practices for maintaining engineering standards using AI. Over the past four months, their AI code reviewer flagged nearly 250,000 deviations from standards and blocked 16,000 merges.

To address the scattered engineering guidance as the team scaled, they built the Cloudflare Codex, a governed set of engineering standards accessible to both humans and agents. Agents can retrieve and apply this guidance at the point of work, supporting code reviews, technical design evaluations (nearly 600 designs assessed), and incident report reviews.
