Qi-Xing Huang, a professor at UT Austin's Computer Science department (UTCS), revealed that the department has hired 8 new faculty members for the 2025-2026 cycle, almost all related to AI, following 7 hires in the previous year.
He also shared that all 5 incoming Ph.D. students have successfully obtained their F1 visas and will join on time. He noted that the admission bar is now exceptionally high, typically requiring either a convincing internship or 2-3 top conference papers.
