EU AI Transparency Rules Take Effect: 3% Global Turnover Fine for Unlabeled AI Content

OnlineInference · x · 2026-08-05

The EU's new transparency rules for AI systems are now in force. The regulations mandate that certain deepfakes, AI-generated public-interest text, chatbots, AI agents, and avatars must be clearly labeled.

The European Commission has published a set of icons that can be used for this purpose. Penalties for non-compliance can reach €15 million or 3% of a company's global annual turnover. The rules aim to help the public recognize AI-generated content and protect against fraud, impersonation, and misinformation at scale.
