AI's Hallucinations Are Forcing Scholars to Rigorously Check References

Oxford scholar Anders Sandberg points out an interesting trend: the proliferation of AI tools might be forcing academia to be more rigorous with reference checking.

Because a flawed citation today easily raises suspicions that the author lazily generated it using AI. To avoid this professionally embarrassing misunderstanding, scholars now have to put in the effort to verify references themselves.
