AI Models Can Guide Brain Microstimulation to Alter Primate Behavior

A new preprint by Hannes Mehrer demonstrates how AI models can guide brain microstimulation to steer monkey visual behavior. The researchers mapped a topographic model's cortical sheet to the monkey brain and optimized stimulation parameters within the model before in-vivo testing.

Experiments showed that model-predicted behavioral shifts correlated with actual stimulation-evoked shifts. This approach provides new insights into eliciting complex percepts via high-level visual cortex, holding promise for future visual prosthetics.
