LeCun Advocates Inference-Time Optimization: Gradient-Based Planning Key to World Models

Yann LeCun shared his perspective on inference-time optimization, framing it as a foundational concept for Energy-Based Models (EBM) and Objective-Driven AI architectures (ODAI).
He noted that when the variables to be inferred are continuous, using gradient-based optimization makes perfect sense. A strong instance of this ODAI approach is seen in world model-based systems, which leverage gradient-based optimization for effective planning.
