Atoms, a robotics company founded by former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, has raised $1.7 billion in a funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), with participation from Bain Capital and Fifth Wall.
Notably, Uber also joined the round, reconnecting Kalanick with the company he founded. Atoms integrates his previous Cloud Kitchens venture and the acquired heavy-industry automation firm Pronto. The company focuses on developing industrial robots capable of automating complex tasks and plans to expand into mining and autonomous vehicles.
