Tencent’s TEngineDB-V rethinks large-k vector search as a native OLAP primitive instead of a black-box index.
- The system materializes vector indexes as relational tables, which avoids scatter-gather execution and lets the engine apply native storage/query optimizations.
- It targets large-k analytical workloads, where retrieval asks for 1,000 to 100,000 results for aggregation, filtering, and joins.
- The paper says the design can deliver up to 145x speedup over StarRocks at large-k scale, while improving recall through a new DPPQ quantization method.
