Nic Carter argues that the Coldcard debacle is evidence that open-weight AI is essential: if closed frontier labs keep strong safety constraints on white-hat users, bad actors will always have the advantage.
He says that unless frontier labs dramatically relax safety, the default closed-model path is a nonstarter.
