UW-Madison lands nearly $25M NSF grant for AI-driven extreme materials research

• The University of Wisconsin–Madison says its engineers received nearly $25 million from the U.S. National Science Foundation for an AI-driven materials initiative.
• The grant creates NSF MATRIX-MIP, a national hub for materials innovation focused on accelerating discovery of “super” materials that can withstand extreme conditions.
• UW-Madison will also launch a new user facility, the Hard Materials Lab, and the center is meant to support collaboration across academia, government, and industry.
