Language Model Builder brings a free Mac app for training small LMs from scratch
dr_cintas · x · 2026-08-04
Language Model Builder is a free macOS app that helps users build a small language model from scratch and understand the basics behind it.
It comes in two parts: a 90-minute interactive textbook covering tokenization, embeddings, attention, transformers, training data, loss, gradient descent, and fine-tuning; and a native MLX training workbench that lets users train a GPT-like model directly on a Mac, with hardware-accelerated MLX and no extra tools. The app is free, requires no account or subscription, and currently targets Apple Silicon machines running macOS 15+.
