Open-source AI is winning enterprise interest even as frontier-model revenue keeps rising

A thread argues that frontier models are not “dead”; instead, open-source models are gaining momentum with enterprises and startups because companies don’t want to hand over their intelligence to private vendors.
The take: frontier labs may still grow revenue, but open-source models could process far more tokens — much of it invisible on company balance sheets and instead captured as cloud spend by AWS, Azure, GCP, and similar providers.
A quoted reply pushes back, saying open and closed models are not zero-sum and that frontier-model revenue helps fund the $1–2 trillion annual capex buildout needed for American AI infrastructure.
