In fields like mathematics, people can now produce high-quality results with minimal effort and without inherent taste. While the pursuit of brand-name conjectures will temporarily mask this trend—since their importance is already agreed upon—once the supply of these preselected problems is spent, the taste for identifying interesting problems will become the ultimate scarce resource.
