Anthropic Engineer: Tying Models and Harnesses Together Is Key to Peak Performance

Anthropic technical staff member Jess Yan argues that the model and its harness (tool-calling and orchestration framework) cannot be pulled apart without sacrificing maximum performance.
She notes that while the specific components and thickness of the harness will evolve as models become more capable, performance assessment must always be conducted in conjunction with a specific harness. Consequently, companies will likely select their own proprietary harnesses for testing rather than adapting to all frameworks globally.
