Chinese tech giant Alibaba has released Qwen3.8-Max, its largest and most capable AI model to date, claiming its performance rivals the best systems from US frontier labs like Anthropic and OpenAI, as well as domestic competitors.
Alibaba announced the model's wide availability in a blog post on Monday. The release follows a preview last month when the company claimed the model was "second only to Fable 5," Anthropic's flagship. The launch of another highly capable Chinese AI model adds to the escalating tensions within the AI landscape across multiple fronts.
