EMNLP 2025 submissions near 10k, researcher says the system is broken
prajdabre · x · 2026-08-03
A researcher noted that their paper submission for EMNLP 2025 has a commitment number of #9623. The program chairs will have to select about 4,000 to 5,000 papers from this pool, while EMNLP 2025 is expected to accept only around 3,200 papers.
In contrast, back when the author started their PhD in 2014, only 146 papers were accepted. This explosive growth in submissions has led the author to claim that the current academic conference review system is fundamentally "broken."
