misraturp · x · 2026-08-03
OtterlyAI analyzed over 100 million AI citation instances over 30 days to understand visibility drivers in AI search. The data reveals that 5.54% of all citations came from social and video platforms. Within this subset, YouTube accounted for 31.8% of social citations (and 1.8% of all citations).
LLMs exhibit distinct behaviors when citing video content: Perplexity leads with 38.7% of YouTube citations via real-time web crawling, closely followed by Google AI Overviews at 36.6%. The report highlights that Google possesses an inherent moat in video understanding due to its direct access to YouTube's comprehensive metadata, transcripts, and engagement metrics, while other LLMs lack access to this deep level of information.
