Open Source Local Assistant Clippy Vision Solves AI Coding Context Loss
Apprehensive-Mix3820 · reddit · 2026-08-03
Developers debugging late at night often face a pain point: terminal errors, editor code, and browser docs are scattered, and when seeking help from ChatGPT or Claude, the AI has zero memory of the context. Manually copy-pasting errors, code snippets, and dependency versions is tedious and breaks concentration.
To solve this without sacrificing privacy, the author built Clippy Vision, a 100% local, open-source desktop assistant. It quietly tracks screen context on your own machine. By hitting a shortcut, the AI instantly knows what you were looking at, what error popped up, and what you were trying to do. The tool ensures nothing leaves the user's device, and a Windows .exe is now available.
