CMU Student's AGI Anxiety: Are CS and Math Degrees Still Worth It?

A student on leave from Carnegie Mellon University's ML program expressed deep anxiety regarding the rapid advancement of AI. Currently working in AI and automation at a major startup in SF, he noted that as we approach the singularity, if verifiable tasks like CS and math become fully automated, traditional tech degrees might lose their value.

He questions how humans can add tangible value in a future where AI can create and fully verify its own work. While traditional engineering or consulting might survive longer simply because they are "slow and boring," he asked the community for advice on what to study at a top-tier school like CMU to maximize tangible impact on the world.
