A math insider shared their experience with AI-assisted research: when facing problems outside their field, AI's performance is astonishing, making it feel like math is "cooked." However, within their own specialty, AI only manages to solve obscure problems that barely anyone has attempted in a decade.
Commenting on this, researcher davidad pointed out a talent misalignment: the researchers willing to tackle truly hard problems are rarely the same ones smart enough to solve them fruitfully, giving humans an unfair disadvantage against AI.
