EU AI Regulations Begin: Mandatory AI Content Labeling, Platforms Crack Down on AI Slop
luisdans · x · 2026-08-03
New EU AI regulations are taking effect starting August 2, focusing heavily on AI transparency and combating fake content:
- EU Mandatory Transparency: AI-generated text, images, video, and audio must include provenance metadata. Systems must clearly inform users when interacting with a machine. AI content must be machine-readable identifiable.
- LinkedIn Anti-AI Slop: Responding to the proliferation of generic AI posts, LinkedIn replaced its AI rewriting tool with more limited correction features to preserve the author's voice, and is testing a "Seems like AI Slop" reporting option.
- YouTube Crackdown: YouTube has removed over 130,000 channels in the last six months for deceptive, repetitive, or mass-produced content.
- xAI Lawsuit: A Minnesota law banning AI tools that generate non-consensual intimate imagery went into effect. xAI filed a lawsuit to block it, arguing the law is too broad and violates free speech.
