A non-technical linguist lost 40 hours of progress in Gran Turismo 4 after their PS2 emulator (PCSX2) memory card corrupted on a Steam Deck. Guided step-by-step by ChatGPT, they eventually uploaded the memory card image directly to the AI for repair.
ChatGPT demonstrated impressive low-level data manipulation capabilities. It analyzed the file allocation table (FAT), found a broken cluster chain, and rebuilt 515 missing clusters. It restored an unfinished write block using the card's internal backup, removed false lost clusters, and recalculated ECC for all 16,384 pages. Ultimately, 1,313 clusters were recovered with 0 ECC errors, fully restoring the save file.
