Dev Uses Claude to Build Physics-Based Watercolor Simulator

Vjeux · x · 2026-08-03

Developer @lionelmora spent the weekend building a watercolor simulator driven by real physics. The project is based on the watercolor model presented by Curtis et al. at SIGGRAPH 1997, faithfully recreating fluid layers, drifting pigments, and wet paper fibers.

The author notes that the most fascinating moment in watercolor painting is the chaotic spreading of pigments in water. To capture this uncontrollable beauty with code, he used Claude to assist with the exploration and development. The project is currently in its early WIP stage.
