AI Payments Rise: MoonPay CEO Books Flight via Claude, Predicts Credit Card Demise
kleffew94 · x · 2026-08-02
MoonPay CEO Ivan Soto-Wright stated on Market Bubble that using credit cards on websites will eventually die. He booked a flight to Spain by talking to Claude, paid $400 in USDC via the x402 protocol, and received his boarding pass within minutes without opening a browser. The product, PayBox, is a non-custodial wallet integrated into Claude and ChatGPT, allowing users to swap tokens, bet on prediction markets, or book flights via text commands. The x402 protocol launched under the Linux Foundation last month with 40 founding members including Visa, Mastercard, AmEx, Google, AWS, Stripe, and Coinbase. MoonPay airdropped $355K in USDC to 19,000 people to test PayBox, which reached the top 100 in finance on the App Store without any promoted posts.
