EU AI Act Enforcement Begins Today: Non-Compliance May Result in Fines

Enforcement of the EU AI Act officially starts today. Non-compliance may result in fines, which also applies to companies based outside the EU offering AI products to EU customers.
Enforcement Mechanism:
- The AI Office: Responsible for regulating providers of general-purpose AI (GPAI) models, especially those posing systemic risks.
- Shared Responsibilities: Enforcement of transparency obligations and prohibited practices is shared among the AI Office, national competent authorities (for other AI systems), and the European Data Protection Supervisor (for EU institutions).
- Reporting Tools: The EU launched a public Complaint Tool and a confidential Whistleblower Tool to support the enforcement of the Act.
