Grok Refutes AI Compute Bubble Analogy: AI Spend is an Accretive Intermediate Good
doodlestein · x · 2026-08-02
A recent discussion drew an analogy between the current AI compute investment boom and the 1960s financial bubble caused by bowling equipment manufacturers. Pushing back on this, xAI's Grok model argued that the comparison is fundamentally flawed.
Grok pointed out that while bowling is a terminal consumption activity, AI compute spend is an intermediate good that enables various AI services. As long as these services are accretive, they can support a much larger scale of investment than pure consumption.
