SpineCodex: Extending AI Coding Assistant Effective Context to 2.5M Tokens

LingmingZhang · x · 2026-08-02

The open-source project SpineCodex aims to solve common pain points of AI coding assistants (like Codex) when handling long-horizon tasks, such as running out of context and attention drift after compaction.

Using Just-in-Time context compilation, the tool claims to expand a base context window of 256K to an effective context of 2.5 million tokens. It focuses on maintaining maximum attention with minimal context usage and supports recursive subagent scaling to improve stability during complex, long-running tasks.
