EMNLP 2026 Issues Rules for Papers Desk-Rejected Over AI Hallucinated References
delliott · x · 2026-08-02
Following recent desk rejections by ACL 2026 due to AI-hallucinated references in the Camera Ready stage, the EMNLP 2026 Program Committee has issued an official statement.
The committee clarified that affected papers must go through the normal resubmission process. Crucially, for authors resubmitting in the ARR May 2026 cycle and committing to EMNLP 2026, they should not mention that their paper was desk rejected by ACL 2026 due to hallucinated references in their commitment message. To ensure fairness and minimize bias, any such declarations will result in automatic desk rejection without exception.
