Will ASI Abandon Humanity? Debating the Coexistence Paradox
danfaggella · x · 2026-08-02
Arguing against the common assumption that Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) will eternally coddle humanity, the author asserts that such expectations are unrealistic.
The author addresses several common objections:
- Survival: It is not a serious position to presume that ecosystems of vastly posthuman life will automatically respect humans. Nature shows that life must evolve to survive within a larger system.
- Cooperation limits: While parties might cooperate briefly, indefinite cooperation is impossible. When ASI surpasses human intelligence and speed by a wide margin, humans will be akin to plants or nematodes to them.
- Complexity and control: Humans do not have beneficial control over life's trajectory, and current complexity is crumbling, which cannot be reversed by minor tech tree tweaks.
