VC Take: AI Efficiency Software Startups Face Bottlenecks, Niche Plays Will Be Acqui-hired
yangyi · x · 2026-08-02
Starting an AI efficiency software venture at the current stage presents significant challenges. The underlying AI capabilities have not undergone fundamental changes, and entirely new application scenarios remain absent. Most current projects merely use AI to solve existing problems, yielding only linear efficiency improvements.
Consequently, outside of highly specific niche markets, most broad opportunities fall squarely within the strike zone of major tech giants. These niche startups not only struggle to scale into IPO-worthy companies, but their ultimate fate is highly likely to be an acquisition and integration into the general-purpose ecosystems of big tech.
