Gabriele Mazzini, the primary architect of the European Union's AI Act, recently revealed in an interview with NZZ that he has resigned from his position at the European Commission due to profound disappointment with the final legislation.
Mazzini stated that his initial goal was to draft a sensible regulatory framework, but the outcome diverged completely from his intentions, ultimately becoming a "monster." He expressed concerns that the current act fails to effectively address potential AI risks and instead acts as a heavy burden that could stifle domestic technological innovation in Europe.
