China's LLM Landscape Splits into Four Paths as Efficiency Becomes Key
量子位 · wechat · 2026-08-02
China's 17 major foundation model players have diverged into four distinct competitive paths:
- Model-native pioneers (DeepSeek, Kimi, GLM, MiniMax): Facing tests in distribution, revenue, and reinvestment.
- Platform ecosystem players (Alibaba Qwen, ByteDance Seed, Tencent Hunyuan, Baidu ERNIE): Focused on converting traffic, cloud, and data into multi-generational capabilities.
- Device-Cloud synergy (Xiaomi, Huawei, StepFun, Modelbest): Originating from chips, devices, and OS, needing to prove integration.
- Industry & Open-source (iFlytek, Meituan, Shanghai AI Lab, etc.): Relying on industry data and delivery networks, challenged by cross-scenario replication.
Model capability alone is no longer a long-term moat. Competition has extended from benchmark scores to commercial viability, high-frequency entry points, and feedback loops. The true differentiator will be closed-loop efficiency combining iteration speed, delivery scale, and real feedback density.
