Researcher @littmath admitted to losing a bet regarding AI's mathematical research capabilities. He originally wagered that AI wouldn't be able to produce an Annals-quality number theory paper within 5 years for under $100k in inference costs.
Although a fully compliant paper hasn't emerged yet, he acknowledged his previous judgment of the necessary capabilities was flawed, concluding that AI reaching this milestone is now just a matter of time.
