Prominent AI scholar Gary Marcus recently discussed the true definition of AGI (Artificial General Intelligence). Pushing back against accusations of 'moving the goalposts,' he insisted that AGI must possess genuine 'general' capabilities—such as writing good video scripts—rather than functioning only in formalized domains like mathematics.
While acknowledging that Google's Astra is highly impressive in math, he emphasized that domain-specific excellence alone is insufficient to qualify a model as AGI.
