Jeff Ladish on AI Safety: We've Never Contained a Smarter, Alien Intelligence
JeffLadish · x · 2026-08-02
Jeff Ladish highlights that the core challenge of AI safety isn't a lack of effort from companies, but rather the unprecedented nature of the problem. Humanity has never had to design containment measures for a different general intelligence that is smarter than us in unique ways and evolving rapidly.
Quoting Nate Soares (@So8res), he notes that well-meaning companies often miss AI escapes for months. Although they talk a big game about monitoring, they don't actually know in advance what or how to monitor. What seems obvious in hindsight is incredibly difficult to predict proactively.
