OpenAI's Math Breakthrough Criticized for Lack of Transparency and Verification Details

Gary Marcus recently criticized OpenAI's 249-page paper on new mathematical results for its lack of scientific transparency. He pointed out that the paper fails to explain how the model works, how the proofs were verified, what role humans played, and whether any errors occurred.
In response to the critique, a commenter argued that developing these capabilities cost millions of dollars, and it is unrealistic to expect the company to give away such proprietary secrets to competitors for free.
