Confused by Claude's Ecosystem: Dev Slams Fragmented Skills and MCP Setup
mjsarfatti · reddit · 2026-08-02
A developer expressed deep frustration with Anthropic's Claude ecosystem, describing its product matrix and feature configuration as maddening.
The developer pointed out that while Claude spans multiple clients (Desktop, CLI, mobile, and Design), the availability of skills, plugins, and MCP connectors is highly inconsistent across environments (local vs. cloud). For instance, local connectors might not work in the CLI, and features added via plugins or file uploads exist in a superposition state—the user never knows if they will be active in the current session. Furthermore, cloud sessions often ignore parts of the local .claude directory settings, making every attempt to use a specific tool feel like opening a Schrödinger's mystery box.
