The Montgomery County Council in Maryland has unanimously approved an 18-month moratorium on data center construction.
The move aims to prevent the region from becoming another "data center alley" like London County, Virginia, prioritizing the protection of local parks and agricultural reserves from over-development. However, some technology advocates worry this will widen the gap with Northern Virginia in tech development and job creation.
