State of AI Compute Index: Anthropic and OpenAI Massively Adopt Non-NVIDIA Chips

Nathan Benaich, founder of the State of AI Report, updated the compute index (as of Aug 1), revealing the latest strategies of top AI companies in their compute supply chains. The share of non-NVIDIA silicon is significantly increasing:
- Anthropic: Added up to 2GW of AMD MI450s compute power. Out of its total 8GW of contracted compute, 7GW now comes from non-NVIDIA silicon.
- OpenAI: 16.75GW out of its total 26.75GW compute is non-NVIDIA, utilizing solutions from AMD, Broadcom, and Cerebras.
Additionally, the report tracks the citation counts of various AI chips in open-source papers, the deployment of Hopper GPUs (H100/H200/GH200), and cluster sizes from companies like xAI and Meta.
