OpenAI Sunsets Atlas Browser on August 9, Pivots to Chrome Extension

OpenAI announced it will shut down its AI browser, Atlas, on August 9, advising users to export their data beforehand. However, the company isn't abandoning its browser ambitions; instead, it is redistributing the agentic browsing features tested in Atlas into the ChatGPT desktop app and a Google Chrome extension. This follows a previous directive to cut back on 'side quests'.
