firstadopter · x · 2026-08-01
MediaTek is aggressively pivoting towards the AI data center market. The company projects that sales of its data center-related chips (AI, HPC) will exceed $2 billion this year. CEO Rick Tsai forecasts that the total market for custom ASICs could reach $80 billion by 2027, with MediaTek capturing a 15-20% share (up from a prior 10-15% forecast).
- Product Progress: Its first AI accelerator chip is set for mass production in Q4, while a second, much more powerful custom ASIC project is on track for 2028 production.
- Supply Chain Investment: The board approved a $5 billion budget for inventory and supply chain engagement to capitalize on massive AI data center opportunities. Commentators noted that unlike Qualcomm's mirage, MediaTek is actually executing a mega-ramp in the data center space.
