OpenAI has teased the capabilities of its next major model, Astra. An internal version of the model reportedly made 10 significant advances in mathematics and theoretical computer science.
These breakthroughs span across multiple open problems in areas including sphere packing, coding theory, group theory, circuit complexity, quantum games, lattice cryptography, and Ramsey theory. According to OpenAI, each of these main results had seen no progress for at least a decade.
