DeepSeek Wiped $600B Off Nvidia, Now Builds a 1GW Cluster Itself

Mustafa Suleyman pointed out an interesting contrast in AI compute: in January 2025, DeepSeek caused Nvidia's market cap to drop by roughly $600 billion by proving that massive clusters aren't strictly necessary for highly capable models.
However, moving into 2026, DeepSeek is now building a massive 1-gigawatt cluster in Inner Mongolia. This indicates that efficiency didn't replace the need for scale; it simply changed what a gigawatt of compute can buy.
