Google officially announced the rollback of the AI image generation feature in Google Earth. The company noted that while geospatial professionals used the tool legitimately, many screenshots of generated imagery violating platform policies have been circulating.
Google clarified that these generated images did not appear in the main Google Earth experience for others to see and were watermarked. However, they decided to disable the feature temporarily while working on implementing stronger guardrails.
