PwC Caught Publishing AI-Generated Reports with Hallucinated Citations and ChatGPT Tags

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), one of the Big Four accounting firms, has been exposed for publishing multiple industry reports riddled with AI hallucinations, fabricated citations, and fake footnotes.

Issued by PwC Middle East between 2024 and 2026, these reports covered topics like agentic AI and public services. The AI-generated traces were glaring: a cybersecurity report's footnote contained a utmsource=chatgpt.com tracking tag, while another report cited a teenager's Medium blog with 280 followers as the sole source for a JPMorgan AI case study. Other Big Four firms, including EY and KPMG, have also recently retracted papers due to AI hallucinations.
