Musk Warns of AI's Next Crisis: Chip Production to Outpace Power Supply by Year-End

Elon Musk recently stated that by the end of this year, AI chip production will outpace the world's ability to power them on. He noted that the three-year bottleneck of silicon starvation is ending, only to be replaced by a harder constraint: energy shortages.

The core issue is that scaling data centers and power grids takes significantly more time than manufacturing chips. Consequently, billions of dollars worth of advanced AI hardware could sit idle due to insufficient electricity. Musk argues that while compute will eventually become abundant, electricity will become the most valuable commodity on earth. The future AI race will no longer be about who can manufacture the most silicon, but who can supply the energy to run it.
