Ken Griffin Calls AI Stock Picking a 'Fantasy,' Says Productivity Gains Years Away
SumitGup · x · 2026-08-01
Ken Griffin, founder of Citadel, stated that LLMs are not truly smart but merely "thoughtfully regurgitating," making the idea of using AI for stock picking a pure "fantasy."
He believes the massive productivity gains currently priced in by the market are still 12 to 36 months away, comparing the current AI infrastructure boom to the California gold rush.
However, regarding xAI and SpaceX, citing Jensen Huang, the post notes that while a supercomputer normally takes 3 years to plan and 1 year to make work, Musk's team brought a cluster up in just 19 days. This unprecedented speed translates directly to cost savings and has quickly put xAI on the Pareto frontier.
